OLIVIA LAPOINTE
Canadian soprano Olivia LaPointe has been lauded for the unique beauty of her warm, lyrical, voice, natural musicality, and expressiveness. Olivia has extensive experience singing in a variety of genres including; jazz, pop, musical theatre, classical, and has studied under many of North America’s foremost performers and instructors in opera. ​​
Some of her most recent roles include Donna Anna in Don Giovanni (Varna International Music Academy); Angelica in Orlando and Giulietta in Un giorno di regno (Opera McGill); Lily in The Secret Garden (Opera NUOVA); and Antonia in Les contes d'Hoffmann (Halifax Summer Opera Festival), for which she received the following review in Opera Canada: “Olivia LaPointe, as the ill-fated singer Antonia, was breathtakingly perfect. Her duet with Hoffmann, 'C’est une chanson d’amour,' was one of the production's most magical musical highlights.”
As a vocalist with Varna International Music Academy in July 2024, Olivia toured and performed throughout Italy, including Rome, Vicenza, and Asiago. While in Italy, she performed the role of Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, under the baton of Maestro Gregory Buchalter. She was a soloist in multiple musical theatre and Italian art song concerts, and performed in the Festival Chorus for Verdi’s Requiem. Olivia was a semi-finalist in the 2023 Lotte Lenya Competition in New York City: a one-of-a-kind competition that requires a demonstration of both acting and vocal skills and celebrates the crossover between opera and musical theatre. In July 2023, Olivia made her European debut as a Voice Fellow with Opernfest Prague and sang with the Prague Symphony Orchestra in the historic Smetana Hall in Prague, Czech Republic.
Olivia is currently the Worship Arts Assistant, a Choir School Instructor, a Contemporary Worship Leader, and a Sanctuary Choir Soprano Section Lead at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church (TEMC) in Toronto, Ontario. Previously, she was the Worship Arts Assistant, Vocal Director, JRNY Kids Choir Director, and a Worship Leader at Journey Church Fredericton in New Brunswick. From 2021-2023, Olivia organized, planned, developed, and led Journey Church's Let’s Sing! Music & Arts Summer Camps.
Olivia also has extensive experience in studio recording and performing with her family’s group, The LaPointes. Their most recent album is Christmas Together, featuring The Jolly Jazz Band. She also loves to teach voice lessons in person and online, with her studio expanding to over 40 students.
Olivia received her Master of Music in Opera and Voice with Dominique Labelle at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, and her Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance with Honours with Frédérique Vézina from the University of Toronto.
